    NERRF6 -- June 25, 26, 27 -- Pine Island, NY

The NERRF 6 date and location have been set: June 25 - 27, 2010
Once again at METRA's field in Pine Island, NY.

The flier's fee is only $10 if you pre-register at NERRF.ORG (opens Friday May 7) and $15 on the field. Same fee whether you fly one day or all three!

    http://nerrf.org/

This year, you have to be a METRA club member to fly, so please go to METRA's website at METRAROCKETCLUB.ORG and join.

    http://www.metrarocketclub.org/

Looking forward to seeing you there!

And be aware that to join METRA you must already be a NAR or TRA member. So if you are none of the above, figure $62 to join NAR, $30 to join METRA, plus the $10 flyer fee for NERRF= $102.

To begin with, the flyer would have to be NAR or TRA ANYWAY to fly. So the $62 is moot. So it's only $40 to fly at NERRF. About $10 more than last year.
Plus you get a years membership to the best field in the N.E. to launch rockets!

To join METRA you need sign a waiver and pay 30.00.

To fly HPR at METRA you need to be NAR or TRA certified. [ same as every other NAR or TRA club I can think of ]

Visit www.metrarocketclub.org to join via paypal, this your ready to fly when you get to NERRF 6.

BBQ is of the radar as it turned out to be a HUGE expense for NERRF 5,

We are considering asking the food vendors to "stay open late and serve, Same effect as the BBQ w/o the risk to NERRF cash.

We will update here and the website once a decision has been made.

NERRF6 pre orders are being accepted NOW. SAVE BIG on Aerotech HPR if you order by May 15th.

Exactly! Membership to the best field in the N.E. and Entry to N.E. premier 3 day launches N6? A pretty good deal in my book. If you want to fly at Red Glare? you have to be an MDRA member as well.

As for me I plan to be there. With any luck (and a whole lotta getting off my lazy backside) I will fly my L3 project Friday AM. Then I am gonna fly 1/4A the rest of the weekend.

Since the BBQ was deemed economically unfeasible, the gang of idjits from CATO are planning our own thing on the field. If Lloyd (mondo good hot dogs) decides to stay on into the evening, that will be where we get our food. Otherwise, we will come up with something else as the only thing better than a day of flying is to get together with your buddies and tell lies about the days flights afterward...If you are interested, ping me via PM and we can go from there.

Actually my other plans are a return of the 5.5" Skeeter, the PR Nike Apache, my Pink Velociraptor on a J Hybrid (if Kevin O'Classen makes it). A demo flight of the I170 Mojave Green for the 54-427. The inevitable 54mm Stealth Drag Race, I might even try my Woket once again. And of course (just to annoy Gary) Project Frankenrush (on a really nasty bright Yellow EX load).

Still planning though so all of that is subject to the whims of fancy.

a question for any metra members out there:

I have been on the sight looking at the membership registration, just wondering what the difference is between adult, junior and additional family members.

    Thanks in advanced

NERRF allows fliers under 18 to fly LPR FREE as long as they are with a NERRF registered & METRA member adult flier. The NERRF website will be up shortly with all of the registration details...

    From the METRA Website

    Memberships
    Senior Member (18 & over) = $30.00/year
    Junior Member (non-voting & under 18) = $10.00/year
Additional Family Members = $5.00/year each
Membership runs calendar year January 1 thru December 31.
See our download page for membership applications.

    New site looks great!

Just one question. How would I go about signing up for multiple volunteer shifts? It seemed to only let me select one on the pre-registration page. Also, will a volunteer roster be posted as in previous years?

Thanks, that's a good point. I was just trying to make it simple. Currently you can only select one job, but for multiple times. I will modify the form to allow you to select multiple jobs at multiple time. I'll also put up the roster so people can see what's available.

My question is why call the event Nerrf at all? I can see requiring flyers to be members at their normal launches, but when advertising a big launch trying to attract flyers from around the country, it does not make sense. Many are not willing to pay a club membership to fly at a club that I will not fly with again during the year. The fee for the registration should be enough to cover all legal issues...

METRA Field Metra Rules, From the onset of NERRF its was supposed to move around from field to field and never once has in 6 years, For N5 other clubs where asked to host N5 with no takers. The inception of NERRF is and was a great idea but in reality has only ever been just another launch, Granted a GREAT event but just another launch none the less. Call it what you will but at the end of the day? Its a Rocket launch.

METRA launches are Indy format. That is they launch commercial and research motors on the same days. Anyone can launch any motor there as long as it's within the rocketeers cert level. (no liquid fueled rockets though)( i mean no gas bombs) Hybrid NO2 is OK
METRA has it's own GL insurance so they can launch this way.

To launch at the METRA site you have to be a club member and a NAR or TRA member. (except for G and under motors) It's in the club's rules and an insurance requirement.

If there are any other questions about this contact Dave Greenapple, dgreenapple@yahoo.com or Tim Wilsey, twilsey@wilseytool.com

They will have ALL the info you'd need to make your decision to come to the best field in the NE.

Maybe this year I'll be able to find a decent parking spot.

IMHO the best field is in Maine, and the time it takes to get there for me is about the same as Nerrf.

Well, then let's get the NERRF committee to talk about having it in Maine next year.
I'd love to travel there to launch then. I'm good for a road trip!

The location is Tripoli Cherryfield. It is about 80 miles NE of Portland (up around Bar Harbor). They have a killer year around waiver (IIRC ~ 25K). The launch site is a blueberry farm that, according to the prefect, has a secondary crop - bees!

I asked the prefect about moving NERRF there for year three, and he told me the site, while huge, would not support this kind of event. The access roads were iffy and the landowner is OK with 15-20 people launching. A couple hundred was probably not something they would entertain.

By the way, if anyone would like to understand why NERRF has only been at METRA's Pine Island field, please feel free to contact me. I will be happy to share the history off line. Suffice it to say, that if there was another suitable venue, it would be a road show.

I'm still putting my flights together. I've got an M1850GG I've been looking to burn, Its probably one of the last one out there too? Might put that in my 6" THOR? Waiting for the Featured Projects Page to be posted as well.
