I read in the late 70"s in the NAR magazing (long lost issue) where someone flew a FSI dart with a F-100 booster in New Mexico and the booster landed on the Launch rod. They didn't say if they went mach with the upper stage. The instructions indicated you have to be a few hundred feet away from the pad to hear the sonic boom (rifle crack).
Mt first sonic attempt was with that rocket. My latest was with a Starlight Flash 24 prototype at the NSL. Imagen a 24mm Min dia. rocket with an old Areotech G-110. Yet again I was to close to the pad to here the boom but the rocket was lost due to the 7,000+ alt. expected. but no shred and a stabe flight. Now to build one for a Elis G-20 and get it kitted this fall for all the other speed freaks.
