ASP and Edmund Scientific have .5 Mil mylar in sheets. They are a little pricey. Does anybody know of a source for purchasing by the roll? I didn't find a vendor doing a google search.

I did find something of interest. Several NASA documents mention .25 Mil Aluminized Kapton. Does anybody have any experience with this? Know of a source?

I tried to get some of that aluminized kapton film several years ago and basically was told that the amount produced is the amount used for spacecraft and such. They told me they may have small scraps left laying around after use. Theres no such thing as a small roll of the stuff and its expensive..really really really expensive..

you can get various mils of mylar here:

I just did a quick search for kapton film on McMaster and found quite a bit. A section of 0.002"x12"x24" was $18.64 They have different thicknesses and sizes (even a cut-to-length option) and while not cheap, it's not NASA expensive either.

but its not .25 mil and its not aluminized..... the 2 mil thick kapton is too thick for parachutes... I know I have some ..makes great body tubes though...

perhaps somebody should consider using kevlar thread to sew mylar(on one side) to flourescent orange ripstop nylon on the other side........
