Very nice, built one of these when I was a kid and lost it to a tree about 17 years ago flying with my brother as we tried to recapture our lost youth.:)
Glenn
I got to see it a few years ago, it was a few hours after the shuttle undocked from it and you could see them both going across the sky together like 2 stars, very cool!
Yeah, they're all tough but probably the worst was losing my Scissor Wing Transport to a tree a couple of years ago. Got the tail section and the power pod back but the rest just would not come...
I just took the "easy" way out on this and got an Estes Merc Atlas on auction. All those crazy parts on it all I can say is good luck cloning that. Probably one of the best scale kits Estes ever...
Come on, don't you fools know that the lottery is just a tax on people who are bad at math? That said, I threw in $10 for my office pool......we won $39, a little short of the goal

Very nice stuff, I had the Javelin/super flea combo from back in the day and I still fly the Javelin to this day! Alas the Super flea was lost a few years ago at our club launch. I also have a...
Alas, as a low power guy, the biggest I have flown to date is the Mighty D! I will get into the mid power at some point.......
I've got about 5 in package, none in progress and none built but unflown....but I do have 3 that need repair. I'd better get to work!
Absolutely go to the 2 chute system. I Fly a Mercury Atlas myself and would never think of using 1 chute as it is a virtual guarantee that you will have damage. That capsule has to land pointing...
I'm a kitbuilder who loves to see 'em fly! Love the history and my interests tend to be toward scale stuff.

I have a seriously beat up Estes Alpha III that is about 30 years old, I can't seem to kill it! Use it mainly as a wind tester. One of our best flyers is the Estes No.2 Skywriter, one of the worst...
I can assure you the original BBZ had an 18mm mount as I built one and always launched it on a C, until it core sampled and was destroyed in 2003.

Agree with Brent! My BD is the first version that came out and I did it stock with the black & yellow scheme and decals, much cooler looking than the rather ugly E powered version that came after!

Try an Aerotech D21 in that Outlander. Gave mine the best ride it ever had. Also use a good Nylon chute as the Estes shroud lines will break every time under the weight, at least in my experience....
A couple more, showing a table with the center piece and our place card table with a few rockets displayed.
Glenn
My son's Bar Mitzvah was this past November and his theme for his party was rockets, what else? We had a person that does these sorts of things come up with rocket centerpieces for the tables using...
Good to hear your news! Had the shoulder surgery myself last May due to a big calcium deposit that had to be removed. Recovery is long and ongoing although now I feel I am about 90-95% of the way...
Hi Jim & Welcome!
I'm a GSSS member since 2003 and although I won't be at this Saturday's launch, Hope to meet you at a future one!
Glenn
I am fine with the laser cut fins as well as cutting them myself. I do 2 coats of sanding sealer then prime and paint. Comes out pretty good and it doesn't take too long to do.
That is just incredible, thanks for posting!
One ugly rocket...never owned one & never will. I'm mainly into scale anyway so for me to be interested in a non-scale model it has to be more than a 3 or 4 FNC type deal...

Well, it was hot as hell out there today but the launch went off. It was lightly attended with only about 4 or 5 flyers but my son and I had a good flying day overall with 7 flights which were the...
Low/Mid power launch at North Branch Park in Bridgewater 10 am - 3pm, all welcome!

Got into it as a boy of about 10 right around 1979 or so, started with the Alpha III launch set which I still use today, including the rocket! The rockets got put away when I went off to college,...
Great job on the L2 Bob, Congrats!
Glenn
Even on a C you will send an Alpha pretty much out of sight, so a D is just overkill. Just get a bigger rocket for that D!
Glenn
I would say my definition of mid power would be similar to Micro's, only difference being that when using a single E, I would say black powder would be in the low power category while composite...
