Thank you!
I believe the forward "wings" affect stability more than the scoop does. Even so, I got some pretty good flights out of mine. As far as converting for glide recovery, I don't think it's possible. ...
I don't recall any staging problems with mine. What motors did you use?

1 vote here for using Future as your clear coat, decal sealer. Never a compatibility issue. I like the way it gives the rocket a nice shine.
Don't forget the Aerobees and Astrobees. Scale, but the names follow with the theme.
Semroc has the Aerobee Hi, Aerobee 150, Aerobee 350, and the Astrobee 350.
Back in the early 80's I had an...
My Betty weighs about 2.2 without the chute. 2.4 ounces with chute and snap swivel. My Big Betty has held up fine. The flights are not quite majestic as the Bertha, but it is a great flyer. My...
I see you are upgrading the tail shroud to 110lb card stock. Good idea. Coating the stock shroud with CA is not enough. I ended up replacing the tail shroud on mine. When I did, I slotted the...
I've done this too. Just takes a minute to fabricate a thrust ring like this. I like to smear a little extra glue on them to protect from ejection gas.
I like Raul's idea about making a clear decal over silver. For the radiator panels, I have some white corrugated paper you could cut to make those. Let me know if you are interested and I'll put a...
He's got a drop rig setup on his Radian Glider already. Weren't you already planning on glide testing your RC SS1 with that rig, Kevin? Not sure if that ever plan materialized.
The second flight was definitely the best. That one actually resembled something close to a controlled glide.
It's not that difficult. For $8.39 plus shipping you can have your very own.

Dr. Zooch has a lifting body kit that rides piggy back on a booster stack...shuttle style. It's pretty cool.

Got a flight off this evening. Went B6-0 to B6-6. I wasn't able to lay my hand on a C6-0 booster right away, but had the B6-0 in the flight box already. Whichever booster motor I used I was still...
Wes, mine is built and mostly ready for flight. Just need to attach the recovery components....and it will be all white. I owe a huge apololgy for dragging my feet on these (not so) recent beta...
I sewed nylon cord into this chute...

Well, it HAD potential. I completed the pop pod this evening. Used a dummy engine casing and a small lead shot weighing about 3 grams epoxied to it. This added up to about 9 grams of...
Sounds like what I am running into also. There is slightly more elevator area due to the fact I added some width to the inner wing pieces, but it's barely enough. They almost need to be a few...
A recent thread in the LPR forum got me motivated to try something. It was noted by the person who started the thread that the SR71 shows some glide characteristics during the coast phase. This is...
Semroc Goliath.
Somehow, I knew chances for the B14 were probably slim. How about the C5, B8, A10-0 ?
I just compared the wingspan on the Apogee kit to the Estes kit. The Apogee SR72 seems to have a proportionately wider wingspan than the Estes kit. In other words, if the Apogee SR72 were scaled up...
Yep. I was able to get some decent flights from my SR72. The shape works and WANTS to fly, it's just a matter keeping it light and getting it trimmed properly. Pop pod is the way to go. Upscaling...
Camera size? Tube diameter?
Here are the specs I found online for the two sizes:
BT56 is 1.343-1.349" OD and 3.301-1.307" ID
BT55 is 1.325" OD and 1.283" ID
They are indeed different sizes, but the specs I found don't...
The Riptide may not be BT55 at all. I know some of the RTF's use BT56. BT55 and BT56 are similar diameters to the naked eye, but there is just enough variance between the two sizes such that they...
I purchased mine from AC Supply. Mine wasn't shrink wrapped either. I saw some at a LHS(Hobby Works in Laurel, MD) that were shrink wrapped. It appears they are available both ways.
Do you have any pics that show the ailerons and pop pod in better detail? Looks like you built a neat system for the rear end.
Cool bash Blades! Some of those decals look familiar too.;)
Can you describe how it glided?
Yes. I believe he brought it to my place for the maiden flight(and the several flights that followed) and it worked like a charm. Very impressive for such a small glider.
