Those two came out really nice Arthur. That V2 scheme is not easy. I'm going to try some lightweight drywall patch to form the fairings at the end of the fins.

Nice job ! That sure looks like a textbook definition of "glossy red". The rail buttons are aftermarket, correct ?
North of Big "D" we had thunder, lightning, and rain without the winds that blew through Cleburne and Granbury.
Perhaps the OP wasn't after a full blown design tool. There are (or used to be) spreadsheet-style CP calculators that implement the Barrowman equations. How well some of these work (if at all) in...
Big Bertha with a 24mm motor mount. Most bang for the buck IMHO.
Since becoming a BAR in 2006 (cheez, time flies), I have tried a few different techniques to handle balsa. I settled on a seal, fill, prime sequence using Deft lacquer sealer, Elmers wood filler...
SCIGS deserves an exclusive wing of his own in the gallery. All of the explanation of technique (nothing ground-breaking) and materials (rattle cans) can't substitute for talent. Beautiful work.
I can't think of anything that meets your criteria of large, semi-advanced, and not a bag of parts. Aerotech is probably the closest thing we have to an RC ARF: www.aerotech-rocketry.com
I think...
Now that is a sharp little rocket. Perfect size for kids of all ages.
"Klaatu barada nikto"
Funny you guys should mention fluorescents. Here is an example of some imperfections in the base coat that you were talking about. I may just leave it to remind me for the next one.

Beautiful work. You've definitely earned your bragging rights here and at MDRA. If I may make a suggestion: whenever you are ready to fly, wait for the proverbial perfect day. I mean the dead...

Ok, guys, what am I missing here ? An altimeter in an Estes FIRESTREAK ? A BT-5 (about 1/2 inch diameter) based, 5 inch or so tall plastic ready-to-fly ? I say NO WAY.
Folks bring that rocket...
I have used Aerotech E11's and E18's in my Mean Machine with very satisfying results. My only mod was using 6 inch coupler stock to give those joints a little more "flex" resistance. A few more...
Ok so there are alot of youtube videos with all kinds of paintschemes. This one has JFK and what looks to me like a dark green finish. Hard to tell with these old movie transfers. That picture you...
Nice clean build and sharp finish. I'm a firm believer in "my rocket, my rules" when I build and paint a rocket. Please take the following comments in the spirit of that statement. Most of these...
WOW! That's one you don't see every day. I'm amazed at what was "kit'ed" back in the day. Cool red nose cone. Another ebay find ?
LOL, couldn't let that one slip by evil ed. Maybe curled up in the FETAL position with some fecal matter in his shorts from watching the videos. :)
Howdy right back. If your Leviathan is still under the Class 1 weight limit (53 oz./3.3 lbs.) you can fly it at Frisco. Check out www.dars.org and come out whenever you're ready, no purchase...
I hope I used that word correctly; I'll press something harder that my finger along the tape edge. Back of a spoon, hobby knife handle, something like that to get that edge down as smooth and tight...
I'm working on mine right now as a matter of fact. I'm planning on this test pattern finish found on www.v2rocket.com :

g-train,
Is this the stuff you used ?:

If so, then I would just take sandpaper (or an emory board) to it. I never heard of plastic model cement referred to as "rubber" cement.

Yours came out really nice MA. When's the first flight ?
Yes, I would like to see where Fillion disses his Castle roll. There was another Firefly reference in an episode where he talks about dressing as a space cowboy for Halloween.
+1 for Castle !
You and I are on the same page as far as working around the problem but ThirstyBarbarian's recent experience has convinced me of the advantages of at least registering the complaint. Somebody at...
Estes (or the Quangdong factory) must have alot of that thin (1/8 inch) 3 ply stock to use up. This being most definitely an in-production kit I'd expect a quick remedy from Estes.
I'm astounded by the generosity of Estes. TB, from this day until the end of forever you must never ever say anything bad about Estes! I guess it's a good thing I don't make my living in retail...
I agree that you can make balsa pretty strong. Skin 'um with paper or even 1/32 or 1/64 ply sheets. The fins that come with the EX are nice but they are just 1/8 inch/3 ply which might explain the ...
Well I hope we get to see an actual build thread here after all this whinning !
Did I misunderstand your comment about being a bit galled by Estes response ? <sigh> Opinions......
