You wont hurt anything sanding through the gel coat.
I sanded mine and did a resin wipe with some aero epoxy
get some sticky backed sand paper. We use it for icing sims on aircraft. Drag goes up pretty quick
Sinful, Im not 100% sure that the coupler will help it might just break in front of the coupler if it does let go the 6xl case stiffens up the rear of the rocket pretty well the brake was right in...
rock sim does not work for Cp calcs on a V2 it doesn't take into account the fin area in the boat tail. On my Pole Cat CP is right in front of the fin can.
...
pretty good write up GT. But you are forgetting one of the most important factors in composites and that is the resin. The crappy resins we get in the hobby are no where near the properties you can...

I prefer the pin pull. That way if you get back to the launch line you have your key in your hand you are good to go. If there is...
I use a DA or a sanding block to true up the seam. It will probably take some filler to make it right. On the inside I would sand the surface well with 120-240 Grit to expose fibers. Then bond...
Id say by eyeball you have 1-2%
With what you are trying to do a sheet of fiberglass skrim would work a little better.
For reference a laminate doesn't start to get decent properties until at least 40% fiber volume even then this is a rather resin rich layup. generally speaking strait resin or resin with poor fiber...
You don't have nearly enough fiber volume to make a difference. All that resin is basically heavy paint at this point.
I am not sure why you are worried about an air frame failure on a G motor...
an abrasive tile blade works well.
I don't think that air frame was carbon. I think it was glass with black resin. The fibers are white not black once the resin burnt away. Looks like you defiantly needed a tube with a higher Tg...
I think you will find that a real release film is not that expensive and wont contaminate you part with wax https://www.airtechonline.com/econo/econo_a.html
Not sure what you 20 min epoxy you...
I am not offended at all the reason I posted all of this is so that we can all learn. I know I have learned more from 3 seconds worth of data than I have in all of my other flights combined.
It never really burnt except on the leading edges. Mostly just softened on the surface. I think a different clear coat would have helped.
Are you sealing up the hole you drilled with CA or Epoxy. You also need to seal up the cut ends If not it could start to delaminate in that area the could even happen with a glass tube if you were...
if anything it was under-stable. I will still do a full fill and fair Im guessing the wrinkly paint would be worse than the spirals.
I want to try the flight again next year take the lessons I learned on this flight and build a better stronger, faster more awesome Mariah. Next years flies with flat black bbq paint or goes naked. ...
um the back wing was incredibly unstable not what you want for a rocket
I did both of mine on a Pole Cat V2

thanks
here is the flight graph.
I saw the video from the flight you can see a wobble about 3 seconds in I think this is the point of failure...
I didn't get any pictures of your rockets but thanks for recording for everyone. I know I appreciate it.
This rocket also served as my L2 bird J210

here are a few more pics
the break was right in front of the super mount. The motor would keep the tube stiff behind it so maybe it got into an oscillation and bent over. Also cool burnt paint...
Thanks again for taking video and pictures Alex. I don't blame GLR for the failure I figure much after Mach1 you are on your own. It could have been as simple as a nosecone slightly crooked put a...
I did it broke on the other side of it.
