My best friend built the Vashon X-13 glider. I recall that was before Estes bought out the line so that must have been around 1970. Had the pleasure to witness several successful flights (and they...
Got to view BB-61 this morning at her new home in San Pedro. 16 inches of diplomacy.
I agree the Iowa class ships are dead-sexy. Will confess a certain nervous twitter at the sight of the Yamato....
I tend to scratch-build my parasheets. Too much less-than-stellar performance converted me.
1. Absolutely use a snap swivel. My chutes get detached when not in use and hang open from the ceiling....
Yes there is.
I hit that seam with medium/gel CA and worked it with 220 grit sandpaper. One good coat of Duplicolor High-Build primer and it was gone.
I've been working on my MMX cluster technique while my club has been flying off a smaller field. For the record, I'm flying two motor clusters. I'm using a Quest pistol-grip controller with a drop...
Found my pix.
The MMX Cluster and my Frankenstein Alpha have body tubes covered in Monokote.
The iron I use is here:

Has anyone here used Monocote on rockets?
I've had moderate luck with that.
There is definantly a learning curve to applying Monokote well.
I found it helpfull to practice on a paper towel...
My club moves onto a smaller field for 2 months while The Renaissance Faire is in town.
It's a good time for all things Micro.
I've been working out my cluster techniques and have had good...
What? No bird people?
My Meyer's Parrot Kiko in mid-yawn.
The motors do not contain the ejection charge. They do however, contain the delay grain. The delay grain burns in the same manner as the black powder and throws hot particles and gasses forward as it...
...that darn 1/4" long thrust ring. my motor will stick out 1/4" instead of...
Yeah, that's a little 'gotcha' with the Quest parts.
I've been working though a stash of them myself and have found...

Got mine inbound.
$34.99 with free shipping.
SCRA flightline at the Santa Fe Dam. Stills from a keychain camera.
Spotted contrail in Fountain Valley.
Very nice!
I like them too. They always seem to get attention when they
show up to fly.
Mine got an upgrade to a 2-stage after the NE motors came out.
I scaled Art's fin unit up a bit. The nose on this is...
I'll second that the Truax Patriot is one of the best flying models
I have built.
Have only launched mine ONCE on a full A motor. A bit of weathercock
persuaded it to head for the next area code...
Kit bash an Estes Bull Pup 12D into an MX-774. Also from JimZ:

I hold down guitar duties in a small Blues combo.
We gig every week and back up a Burlesque troupe once a month.
I can post a picture of that but it's not suitable.
An Epiphone arch top and...
Here's two of my cardstock MMX builds.
A Ghauri IRBM and a Convair MX-774.
Not to further digress but I have to ask:
Looks like your plugged into a Silvertone head on it's matching cabinet.
Is that the all tube version?
So far, my only cluster is a MMX conversion of a Starlight Micro.
I used a Flis 2X motor mount and rigged it for streamer recovery.
It's a bit draggy but flies well. The best part is hearing the...
I have a new version in the bag. The booster has an aft ring that places
the motor forward.
The nod would have to go to my BT-5 based Micro Big Bertha.
Coming in at 9.9 grams. Low and slow replicated in micro scale.
She's a keeper.
I'm thinking wood dowel and a pencil sharpener.
I've used Chan Stevens pop-lug design. It's made from a scrap of body tube.

I was a huge MMM fan. Had the Moon Base, Crawler, and the Re-entry Glider. Even had a Captain Lazer figure. Wish I still had them. I would gladly see the movie.
Had one of them as well. Too...
