Don't you have a 98/6XL case, or IIRC liner is stuck, or you can't remove the fins?
When my N5800 project flew I learned a few things:
Never attempt a project like this without multiple...
A friend of mine used to work at XCOR on the landing gear. I asked him their process, and he said after initial design, they'd build a model, test it, then build a full size and test it. Like they...
I agree it didn't drag separate, but after conducting tests in Solidworks Flow Simulation of the fins I have been designing and producing, the nosecone generates far more drag than the three fins. ...
+1
The math doesn't support the nosecone popping off. If we assume you're at 6000 AGL you're looking at around 36 lb of force due to pressure build up. If you're going at mach 3.2 you're in...
They would've passed in '01, but would the brother that spent time in Russia pass today?
People who fly primarily on sod/grass don't get the experience with playa that we do, or the effects of a rocket being dragged across the lakebed under chute.
The plain truth is that even if Jeff...
I think they're choosing motors that will sell well. I'd buy whatever motor has the thrust curve I'm looking for, but I know a lot of fliers like white lightning with tame thrust curves.
I'm glad you asked...saucer!!!! Cheap and easy to make, they don't even need parachutes, and they're bulletproof. Just slide in a single use motor, hit launch, and load it up right away :)
Successful test!!!!

Pictures to come when I get to a full computer.
2 second "burp" 2000lb thrust.
You could also fill the delay liner with regular epoxy. I've seen it done and it works very well.
Alright, I'll be going on vacation in April, but I do have the garage back so I can begin work again. Tasks still needed:
Create E-bay: Will be set between fins, holes pre-drilled through TTW to...
AFAIK the ratio is 1 point per dollar, and every 10 points is one dollar off something you can buy (10% off). And from what I could tell from his site, everything is marked up ~10%. So if you're...
True, but I wasn't asking about restartable liquids on a hobby rocket forum ;)
And Fanatic, you'd need a hypergolic mixture, all of which are extremely toxic both before and after ignition. The...
How far of a trek was it from the launch site?
If you have to ask you're probably in over your head. Solids are not restartable. Solids have been designed to "shut off", but they're worthless once extingushed.
Liquid engines can be designed...
West Systems smells like peanut butter, so I like to use that on occasion when strength isn't that important :)
I've made my own fiberglass sheets multiple times, I actually have a piece on my desk. 5 layers of 5oz glass compressed together with a lot of clamps under moderate torque. They measure to 0.04"...
FAR doesn't operate under any of the usual California restrictions. While it does have blockhouses for safety, their waivers, as well as their allowed motor/engine sizes are far and beyond what...
Alright, I didn't make it out to the launch last weekend, so I couldn't snap any pictures. I suppose some good informative text will have to do.
The thrust is about 2000lb.
An upcoming two...
What really sucks is the DDC22 is no longer available. It was the cheapest DD altimeter out there
Round abouts mach 3.5 or mach 4 on the high end?
Maybe a couple pictures this week :)
Nope, it's a completely amateur project, and too much information would ruin the surprise!
Alright time for the next clue.
It is not a solid motor.
Disregarding the danger of disassembling fireworks, there is no telling what type of BP could be in them. Also your thread name was very misleading :P
Interesting, and then I ask you this question. If the VK nosecone is as good, or better than the conical, why go with the conical? And what is your nosecone's bluffness ratio? If I remember you had...
I'll say this, project 60k predicted 120000 ft in rasaero, and somewhere around 65k-70k in openrocket. I'm far more inclined to believe an OR evaluation
Ahh I love this. Actually if I were to give specifics of the motor I would receive mixed results, but that's a little while away.
I gave you a clue above with the liner and nozzle materials...
Yes to massive and awesome, no to Wedge's project. Though I should ask him if he needs any machining help :)
