OK now...we left off building the av-bay right after cutting off both ends of the coupler/reducer.
I used a stiffy coupler in conjunction with a standard size 54mm one. Along with a 54mm bulkplate...
Guys I'm going to let John answer any more questions about the Rocketpoxy, because I'm just using it for the first time & he is the expert on that topic......I don't mind continuing the discussion...
Outstanding sir!
J-500-G!
Whew!
Oh brother........thought I going to be reading about a Viagra overdose!
Since you asked & a a bit early [ I haven't finished the fillets yet]
This is the first set, just pulled the tape off left side just 5 minutes after pulling them smooth.
They are that...
1. It doesn't have much odor at all, John said that was part of the design/formula. Not like any epoxy I have ever used, and actually what faint odor there is ....is pleasant. The more I work with...
Holy hasamoto....man this thread has REALLY gone to the dogs!!!!:y:
been prepping rockets for launch tomorrow & Sunday. I did finish the proto av-bay, took several modifications along the way....
Got the fins tacked in, glue is black only because I was fooling with the tint.

John Olevich is the designer of this stuff.....his day job, formulating epoxy resins for various industrial purposes with GlenMarc.
He built an exotic metal rocket and needed a special glue to hold...
But I'm not trying to remove it from the entire tube, just each side of slots.
Where I did remove it from the tube [motor mount] I did not want to wait for it to dry out or contaminate with...
More on the new "Rocketpoxy". I really like this stuff, just scoop out the needed amount with mixing stick at a 1 resin to 1 hardener ratio. No need to weigh it, it's not that critical to be exact. I...
Much of the fin extends past the slot on the outside of airframe. I Must remove the glassiene layer under that and on both sides of slots for the external fillets. This allows the epoxy to soak in...
My lower airframe is only 24inches long & I want as much room for gear as possible. I cut a bare minimum length motor mount tube 6.5in long. Then peel glassiene for epoxy adhesion.
Fins have a...
I forgot just how nice it is working with wood. All the CR's fit perfect with no mods!
Well this rocket is on the cheap so I ain't using no expensive motor retention. Just old style CHEEEP T-nuts,...
Here is my "old school" fin beveling jig, so simple a caveman could make it.
Just a scrap board and paint stirrer C-clamped to a table, on top of some 60 grit.
Distance between the wood gives you...
Rockets talk...........people mumble! LOL
Even I don't know what it will turn out like yet. Kinda.............Sorta...
Continue we shall.........
I don't even know how large the motors this thing will hold. Just begin to build and see what happens. Ya'll will have to follow along to see what it will look like.....didn't bother with a sim file....
Yuuup....you read it right, I'm building a scratch cardboard fun flyer. I haven't done this in 6yrs!
I want a light weight ,flies on 24-29-38mm motors, kewl looking rocket. One that will scoot on...
It was a L-2 special last year sponsored by AT.
Probably just un-updated websites. You could contact them to be sure, it may still be in effect.
Good Luck
God Speed
Semper Fly!
I have visited your site more times than I can count [ran out of fingers & toes] you did an outstanding job. Besides the Vipers I was a fan of the Sharks.
If your serious about this grand jump attempt, might I suggest allowing me to rig a couple G-80's to the stool. This may give you that last minute needed "push" to make it over the large...
Epoxy.
Yes they are!
Stick with 32 gauge. Day in and day out is more compatible with a variety of club systems.
I think you are getting a lag with the AT system you are using.
See what happens hooking up direct to a...
This was all done with paint you mention!
Splitting the color on fins brings out the "W"
Very interesting, could you supply some detail on how the NC air-brake functioned & was it successful as planned?
Thanks!
Nope......Never!
Rednecks may let you hold the empty...... but never pass a partial or full....... Never!
Definitely wasn't a redneck involved. [speak'n from persn'l xperince h're.LOL]
Close.........kinda.....
.......this time 9in. more of propellant......still 17 second burn! = 50,000 ft +:y:
I'm doing the same right now......converting the transition [3in to 54mm] into an av-bay. Quite simple really.
Cut off both end plates....insert coupler and stiffy coupler....use a 3in BP on one...
