Full length (fin can + ebay + nose section) it's 1.35 meters - 53 inches.
I've built a 29mm Blackhawk-beater (using no CF or glass) and it's been to just around mach and back with no damage. I used LOC 29mm motor mount tubing and Blue Tube connectors, both from Apogee, and...
Kaycee, my friend has that exact same poster.
Easier to balance on two legs than three, silly ;)
Back in my younger and less intelligent days, I flew a potato. Believe it was on an A8-3, and it barely made it 30 feet in the air. Called it "Spudnik" if I recall correctly.
If you find yourself needing to remove object from pictures, then the Resynthesizer plugin (free for GIMP) is the gold standard of texture creating.
If you're the sort of wacko (me) who likes em, SAUCERS. So much fun.
I suppose you could stage 2 D21s, but it would require an electronic staging timer, which is heavy. I'll have to try simming it; not sure if you could break Mach with the excess weight, even with 2...
Laws are indeed tricky. Doesn't exactly help that stuff varies from state of state, and town to town, mainly on the what-you-can-launch end. Last I knew, Rhode Island didn't allow you to launch...
Yup, definitely an ARV Condor.
They've been out of production for a few years, but you can find them occasionally. I bought mine from Kevin Ha at NARCON last year.
Quick-and-dirty sim on my graphing calculator says an E30 won't hit Mach except in a real light rocket. F32 is a better bet - same thrust, 50% longer burn.
I tried it once using a modified Quest kit. Check your stability, double check, triple check. I didn't, and it wrote all over the sky very quickly.
If you want to get it back, then launch in an...
Looks very neat! Let us know how it flies.
Commonwealth has been great for the rocketry community. I hope you have a successful sale and that the new owners continue your fine service.
Adrian, those sound really awesome. Keep us updated.
Well, first off, that is a very nice looking model.
At 1.59 lbs = 7 N right now, your weight is not too bad. However, once you get a motor or two plus motor mounts plus laundry, it's going to be...
Perhaps build a test model, before you risk a fifty-hour rocket? If you did some fabrication of basic parts (i.e, rolled paper cone, etc) then you could make a basic full-scale mockup for no more...
This is why I should not be allowed online the night after finishing a thesis paper...
Scrape a couple grains off with an exacto knife. You don't need a large amount - a sixteenth-inch grain is probably enough.
Find a safe way to ignite it. Putting it on a piece of scrap metal and...
Looking very nice. Certainly a better paint job than my rockets get....
Some glues - many white and wood glues - also get softer from water exposure. Use a hot glue gun to make a little wall around the glue joint, pour a little water on, let it sit.
Congrats!
Looks like the tip of an exploded artillery shell?
Curses. I will be in Peru.
My dad has the exact same camera. Absolutely wonderful. Frequently he gets one of the the igniter going, one of the rocket on the pad, and several under power. Beautiful images.
This is hinted at in the series - his close-quarters takedown of Dobson in the first episode, and a lot in War Stories where he recognizes a sniper rifle from the wounds it makes, and then proceeds...
Within my circle of friends, it has also become tradition, when introducing someone to Firefly, to convince them that Kaylee dies during the first episode*.
* Serenity-the-episode, that is. Not...
As long as you have a reasonable margin of error (big tubefins, etc) I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work.
As long as you take pictures. If there's not a camera present, it's guaranteed...
There was a real nasty bug with the G71s for a while. I believe it was a chemical reaction problem; the Redline propellant uses a lot of strontium and it reacted with the delay, causing ugly...
I'm going to wait for the before-easter stuff, find a plastic egg about 6" in the short diameter. Instant trace compression block engine. Add a 29mm tube through it for the MMT, probably use...
