In case you are wondering ,and I wonder myself.......why do more folks not watch and comment on this build ?

Could it be it`s not a Big Bertha......or some other obscure 3 fin nose cone job ?

Not really irritated (confused perhaps)....but really.....(don`t mention the lack of decals LOL)

Nice to see some fresh air and something different once in awhile.....

I decided to do a scratch build of this kit.I wonder if you could PM me some fin dimensions ?

Thanks

Oh yah...beauty kit ! I never was fortunate enough to get my hands on that kit......dang it !!

I do have a Madcow Bomarc in my stash though ,so it`ll have to do ,although it is a very well made kit as per all of MC kits !

Are you going with the paint scheme suggested on the TLP face card ?

Oh.....is that the Cosmodrome Vostok you have there ?

Why, yes, yes it is.

She needs a new main nose cone after hitting the asphalt on the last flight. I got one from Cosmodrome, but am wondering if I should get another made of some sort of hardwood to survive those landings. This wasn't an issue when I flew on a pig farm.

I am simply watching. The PAC-3 is good introduction to TLP kits as it's pretty straightforward.

As for why Big Bertha's and such? Probably more people identify with kits they can get locally. Well that my guess. Or ones from when they were a kid.

I kinda get used to the silence... I like sharing builds and launches on TRF. Otherwise, there is little incentive to do so. (Crickets...)

The balsa for the wiring tunnels has been cut, 2013-08-25 11.56.33.jpg

glued together and the ends sanded. The first one has been installed and is drying: 2013-08-25 14.02.11.jpg

I have that kit in my stash also ,bought some time ago.

It is a beauty !

I think I have most of Mike`s kits ,except for his newest BB.

This is an interesting variant (small picture).

And this one

I like the schemes of these two pics ,my favorite being the first ,with the orange sections. This looks to be a varient of the PAC 3 judging from the fins.

A tres cool missile and kit no matter what color you paint it ,although I never ever did like the yellow, red and white w/black stripes of the first generation patriots ,you know the one .....:p

Guys and Gals,

I will tell you this, My TLP Type 30 is one of my best flying rockets.

I will also say that those nose cone tips drove me nuts so I eventually left it off mine.

Now that I see the techniques you use, I will try another TLP kit very soon.

Cheers!!

I don't comment much around here (too lazy I suppose) but here's my +1 for this thread! Part of the silent majority I hope :) Been checking this build daily, as I do all TPL thread. I'm inspired to finally try tackling a couple TLP kits this winter.

Aside: I see TLP has a new website with online ordering. There's a TALOS RIM 8D in development that looks sweet!

@ Paul T. Don't forget about all the rkt. files generated in Greg Gleason's thread "PAC-3 Missile" located in Scale. That's where I got my files from.

I`ll have a look ,thanks.

I may do a 3" version since i have spare BlueTube and a 3" NC.

Then again ,a nice 2.6" version would be great for our smaller launch field.

I have the Madcow 4" kit ,flies like a champ !

This thread has over 800 views, not bad. I've been watching but haven't commented as I don't really feel qualified to do so, scale isn't my forte.

On the other hand I've built a lot of Big Berthas in all scales from T2+ to 7.67" so yeah, I can get excited over a Bertha build.

Some folks like steaks and fine wine, I'm more of a cheese burger and beer kinda guy.:)

I hear the TLP builder, once hunted to near extinction by the TLP Haters, is making a comeback in certain parts of the country. It is a rarer and rarer breed who actually builds the rocket rather than shaking the box and having a colorful and plastic RTF fall out. I gave a spare Krypton to one of the cluster junkies in the club and the mods he is going to make are in a word, sick. He still refuses to roll a witches hat but it is not going to make a difference with all that glass. If you can make the PAC 3 or other marginally stable TLP kits fly with lots of mods and big motors then you must be a real rocket scientist!

Not me. Life too short not explore the palette. Give me a ribeye and a fine Zinfandel any day!
;)

There's nothing wrong with that, it's all good. Just because I prefer a cheese burger and a beer or a Big Bertha it doesn't mean that I can't enjoy a steak and wine or a good scale build thread. It's all good and I am enjoying this thread.

I never thought of the TLP crowd as the wine and cheese set but I guess it is true since they are straying form the tried and true 3-4FNC model. AHHH, a good yearly dose of TLP talk to break the silence.

Tried to check out there website but nothing there. Maybe it's down.
