I attended a dirt track race in central PA and someone drop in from NASCAR.

I didn't know he's was there up till 90 min before we arrived.

I've seen him race the night before at another track.

This is also what makes attending rocket launch much tougher, trying to decide what to do for the weekend.

Tony Stewart is / has been a strong supporter and investor in sprint car / dirt track racing (where he started).

OK, now digging deep into dirt car racing, who is this man?

I was trying to find pictures I took at the National Open a few years ago.
It appears, I lost them with the failed HDD where; I lost almost all the pictures take in 2007.

Just saw this thread now; hardcore sprint fan here. Dirt racing in general in fact. I make it a point to attend races in the area when I travel to launches; for example:

-Kloudbusters Argonia: Belleville High Banks (quite possibly the scariest track ever)
-Indiana Rocketry: Farmer City, IL (Tim, did you know that the WoO late models have raced on Thunderstruck weekend the last 2 years?). Indiana is a hot bed for open wheel dirt cars!
-Tripoli Wisconsin/Woosh at Bong: Wilmot for winged sprints historically, though the track has changed hands several times. Slinger if in the mood for asphalt late models.
-Muskegon, MI Smash: Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI (which they cover in dirt once a year for WoO late models).
-QCRS Princeton: never found a track that races during flying season there...bummer!

We are fortunate to have a LOT of successful tracks here in northeastern Wisconsin; most of which are dirt. If the wife would allow, I could go to the races Thurs-Sun during the warmer months, never traveling more than 50 or 60 miles from home.

Yep, my dad used to take my sister and I when I was in grade school a couple times a month to the Bloomington (Indiana) Speedway to watch the Sprint cars and his favorite driver, Sheldon Kinser (Mark & Steve's cousin). Then later through the late 70's/early 80's a friend and I would head down and watch a young Steve Kinser whoop up on all comers. Lot's of dirt racing history there in South-Central Indiana.

I was hoping to make it to Thunder Struck but, it didn't play out for me.
How far is Kokomo from The Thunder Struck field?
So, I went to Williams Grove instead.
I've been there twice this year alone.
Last year I was there twice all season.

Here's another star that showed up on opening day at Williams Grove:

I raced sprints at Santa Maria Speedway in CA. The WOO viisted here several times in years past. I used to go to Ascot to watch the most sideways action you would ever see on a half mile. It was a WOO stop until they went with wings ony. Bummer, the locals used to spank the outlaws.
And BTW I live right next to SMS. Watch the races from my front yard!

Smoke is one of my favorites. Saw him win at Talladega in 2008

Another of my favorites is the guy on the right... from a "few years" back. Used to watch ESPN's "Thursday Night Thunder" in the early 1990's, and first took note of him then.

Sorry about your hd . I read where if a hd goes bad and it is only the electronics and not the motor the circuit board can be replaced with an exact same model board and revive the hd long enough to recover the data

Those guys all like to show up about 10 miles from my house at the Knoxville nationals !

Ah yes...Knoxville. I lived there in 61 and saw the first nationals. Roy Robbins was the winner and the only one sporting a wing. Haha, the next weekend all the cars had wings! Earl Wagner #12 was my favorite.
