Ok people,

What is your opinion?

I love it, have loved it since '79.

Wife hates it. Good.

I love avacado but have a mild allergy to it. I can eat 5 to 10 bites before my mouth and throat starts to itch and my nose starts running. My wife loves guac so I make it often just for her. It's good stuff IMO.

I have an avocado just waiting for me to do my magic on it. A warm chip and that yummy concoction made from it, OH SO DIVINE! It's a fruit ya know. One I love.

It needs to be GOOD guac.

There is a lot of cheap crap out there that calls itself guacamole.

It should be mostly avacado, with just the right stuff added, not cheap oils.

Love it! It's the butter of the healthy. Had some today in my wife's black bean, pico, fresh basil, fresh cilantro, and fresh parsely, spinach wrap burrito. Yum!
Then I had a McDouble later to round off my day ;)

I knew I liked you about something, I just didn't know what@

California Lard! I could possibly deal with the taste if the texture wasn't a disgusting mixture of slime and frosting, with lumps.....

Keep the stuff away from me!

G.D.

Love avacados and guacamole. I'll be in their homeland in two weeks, can't wait to have some with a big bowl of ceviche'.

You can be arrested and deported from California if you don't love it! So many sad people in North Dakota.....gefilte fish nachos..Mmmm!

Born and raised in California... It would be nearly impossible for me to not like it.

I love it if done right. Some of that store bought stuff is nasty.

Secret to good guacamole??

First, proper avocados... not TOO ripe, but DEFINITELY not "green" (unripe). They should SLIGHTLY dent when you squeeze them in your fingers... if they're "mushy" forget it... If they're hard as a rock, gotta give them a few days to ripen...

Halve and extract the pit. Scoop meat out of the skin, discard skins/pit (or let the kids play with them-- suspend them half suspended in water using toothpics, and they'll sprout in a few days... also good to throw at neighbor kids/dogs in the yard). Add juice of one lemon or lime. Smash with a fork until all lumps are COMPLETELY obliterated and the paste is smooth and even.

Add about half a cup to a cup (depending on your preference) of good tomato and pepper salsa or picante sauce... (hot, medium, mild, whatever you prefer-- the jar stuff or bottled stuff is fine, or fresh is okay too). IMHO should have a bit of jalapeno kick to it to wake up the avocado.... they go well together and compliment each other.

Add garlic powder or garlic salt to taste. If you want more flavors, add taco seasoning to taste. Blend well.

Chill and serve with tortilla chips.

Later! OL JR :)

I like to play Guac-A-Mole at the local pizza parlor.

Chief Grady: "Oh, waiter... I'll have two burritos and no guac-a-moles... how about you Rando??"
Rando: "Well, Chief, I'll have a... CHINCHILLA!"
(laughter from city cops)
Rabbit: "I don't get it??"
Ramathorne: "They think I'm MEXICAN..."
Rabbit: "You're not??"

Guess the movie... LOL:) OL JR :)

Good recipe, very close to what I use. I like to add some fresh chopped jalapeno and leave a few lumps left in the avocados.

There was a real Guac-A-Mole game at a restaurant in Phoenix.

I, too, was a hater. It IS GREEN after all ! But now I gotta say it's good and good for ya. But as others have pointed out you gotta have some hunks of real avocado in there.

Not being a chef de cuisine, I'll start with some Wholly Guacamole,

add some chopped avocado and salsa. YUM!

No guess; it's Super Troopers.

As to the thread, best when made fresh with the right ingredients. Plenty of good Mexican restaurants around here and when I visit family in Connecticut and north of Chicago to get my fill.
