I launched my first rocket in many years today.
I had plans to build a proper launch pad and recovery beacon but as usual I couldn't wait to launch my wallet into space.
The first launch was an F20-7w and went 1507 ft. @ 184 m.p.h.
With the weather being near perfect I figured there was no better time than now to try the G-80.
It Blasted off the pad like a bullet at an approx. 30 degree angle(weak launch pad) but still went at least 2k feet taking my altimeter II with it :( Luckily my haste saved me from losing my 808 cam too. That will get used on the next rocket that has a transponder in it.
Anyway I thought I would share a few pics.

Keep looking. You'll find it.

Nice pics, nice rocket!

You need a way stronger launch pad. Those little pads are fine up to a Big Bertha, and not much bigger.

I feel your pain - my first MPR launch had my AT Cheetah stuck in a tree/power lines. I was bummed but hooked for sure! Nice shots off the pad though!!

You can build a launch pad out of PVC and a steel rod from your local hardware store for under $20. That would have probably been enough to keep your rocket aimed in the right direction - the key is the 1/4" rod for AT MPR. Unfortunately the 3/8 rod allows for a little slop which then allows for a bit more bending than you would hope for.

Also if you go to your local dollar store you can probably find a "personal alarm" which makes for a great, cheap screamer. That can be extremely helpful in locating your rocket!

Have fun with the next build! There are a TON of awesome MPR to pick to replace your mustang! Be sure to let us know what you get and post a build!

A Mustang with a G80, flown off a regular Estes pad. Yep, that's what my Dad called "The discovery method". :D

Nice lift off shots, I bet it was fun to watch! I need to build another mustang...

THAT--is a hell of a bow in the rod--and a valuble pic for all to see! I have to say, it's a great looking bird. Hope you find it.

The G80's flame looks amazing!!

I had one dissapear and despite looking everywhere, couldn't find it. Went back the next day and found it in 10 min! If it's not too far from home, go back and have another look :)

 I'm going to have to use that

It's probably still going up.

I made the effort and searched some pretty nasty terrain looking for it,I even left work early to have enough daylight to look. Unless a miracle happens and someone finds the phone # I wrote on my jolly logic it is a goner.
I can live without it but not knowing where it went or what happened to it bothers me.
All we saw was a puff of smoke. Not sure if it blew up or just flew out of sight, it literally disappeared.

Those are some nice liftoff shots! May I ask, what camera were you using?

That was a nice looking Mustang!

Sorry for you loss.

Interesting that the flame was a different color based on the camera.

The flames are different because the motors are different. You can see how much quicker the G-80 was as I barely got two frames in and the f motor had 4 frames veiwable.
I used a cannon digital camera( I'll post model# later) Next time I will take my time and use the manual focus on the rocket instead of the grass.

I also just launched my first Mustang a couple of days ago and it was also my first ever composite motor rocket launch. But first I built a new launcher and a new launch controller. WOW!!! I used a E20-4W and it went almost out of sight. I can't imagine launching that rocket with a G80.

Ahhh... I got it now. Yeah, I bet it really screamed with the G80!
