Desert Heat 2010 in Tucson, AZ

Southern Arizona Rocketry Association (SARA) announces its 6th Annual Winter Rocket Launch. Desert Heat 2010 is a two-day rocket extravaganza with fun, raffles, prizes and events for the whole family.

Saturday, March 27, 2010 9am – 4pm; Night Launch 6 – 8pm!
Sunday, March 28, 2010 9am – 1pm

Located on N. Reservation Road, between Manville Road and Mile Wide Road in Tucson at the Tucson International Modelplex Park Association, the launch facility includes a hanger, a paved runway and a permanent ramada with water. GPS coordinates are +32° 15' 53.06", -111° 16' 25.90.

The club has an FAA waiver allowing High Power Rockets flying to an altitude of 4500' Above Ground Level (AGL), with call in windows to 6500' AGL.

50 rocket mass launches Saturday at 11:00am and Sunday at 1:00pm.

Rocket rentals are available for $2 per launch (includes motor!)

Food and rocket vendors will be onsite to supply you and your rockets with everything you need.

RV parking is available, no hookups.

Launch fees are $10.00 Saturday, $5 Sunday and kids under 18 fly free.
Spectators are welcome and always free.

Which vendors will be on site?

I'm thinking of coming down from Phoenix and picking up my son who is attending colleng in Tucson for this launch.

Do we provide our own pads and launch controlers (HPR) or is this something SARA provides? Oh, and what is the largest motor the field will support?

Both What's Up Hobbies and Discount Rocketry are confirmed vendors for Desert Heat 2010. Between the two of them, you can get just about anything you might want for both model and high power rocketry. Motors from 1/2A through M will be available.

The club will be providing ground support equipment including basic HPR.

M motor limit for day launch, K motor limit for night launch (Approval required).

A great launch despite the windy conditions. The patriot battery was amazing and the sky was full of patriots. One of the best team projects that I have ever seen. The winds calmed for the night launch, which was the best one that I have participated in. Night launching is coming of age and ingenuity rules. Overall a great event, kudos to all involved.

Thank you for uploading the pictures. You got all four of my rocket launches on Sunday including my Patriot on it's Level 1 cert flight and my Quasar Bio-Hazard on 3 E9-6's showing all 3 lit.

The numbers are from the SARA website.

73 of 218 is my 1/4 scale Patriot from PML on a H123 on a Level 1 Cert flight. I am not sure which day this picture is from. I tried both days and was successful on Sunday. Saturday the nose cone separated. The next picture after this one may be the Patriot in flight but I can't tell for sure.

118 is my Aerotech Arcas on a G64.

129 is my Estes 36D Squared on two D12-5's.

161 is my Quasar One Bio Hazard on 3 E9-6's.

118 and 119 were my pictures, both are the same rocket, and they were on Saturday -- I updated both on my flickr page. here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattie_shoes/4470769180) and here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattie_shoes/4469991231) if you have any interest in larger versions. I actually have 8 frames (152-159) of that launch, though a couple have the rocket cut off... It's hard to track moving rockets! Those were 153 and 159 of my frames that day. The other two aren't my pictures.

Congrats on your L1 cert! I may go for it in May...
