Hey Fellow Rocketeers!
It's been a long "low " summer! (Our local club launches are
at a west county park with a 1000 ft. ceiling)!!!
Our First High Power launch of the season was at our Ellsberry farm site. The weather was cool with lite winds. I started out
just for fun with a minimum diameter single stage D and a 2
stage D both of which I scratch built. Both WINRASPed to over
1800 ft. Really cool flights! Never did find the booster...
Next for a warm up I flew the Initiator and the Barracuda on
G motors and safely recovered them just short of the tree line.
Then I went at it with I-200 motors in both the EZI-65 and the
Amraam 4. Those motors really "kick" off the pad and get up in a hurry!! The EZI got the chute tangled around a fin, came down a little less than dignified, but landed in the field undamaged!
The Amraam had a little too much HANG time, close to 2 hours!
A high power rocket at a high power launch hanging high in the
High Power Lines! I was able to lash 6 fishing poles together
and reach up high enough to lasso the body tube and Gently
coax it down safely, avoiding a deadly 47KVA tickle!!
All in all a great day at the launch! The only terrifying moment
was when a big hybrid M motor attempt exploded on the
tower. A really great example of the need to allow 300 feet
distance for safety!
Next launch at Ellsberry in 2 weeks! A 2 day event on the
23rd and 24th with a NIGHT launch on Saturday!!! I have a
couple of larger "I" motors and a "J" ready and waiting!!
It really is just for the FUN of it!! Dr Don
