In the future Russia is hoping and planning to reform and update their space effort.

We should work with them to get back to the moon. I do think we could beat the Chinese together. It could be a new détente.

SSDD...

NASA will continue to buy rides from the Russians while diverting funding from everything else to build a $36 billion dollar megarocket with no payloads out of old shuttle parts, while simultaneously starving the only realistic chance for a US crewed spacecraft/launch vehicle by refusing to properly fund commercial crew development...

Russia will continue to talk about vaporware and grand plans for the future that either come to nothing or proceed at a snail's pace and talking up the importance of their "partnership" with the US, especially since sales of Russian rocket engines and technology to the US and NASA's funds flowing into the Russian program have been the main thing keeping them going... all the while corruption is rife and rampant and huge sums "disappear" even as senior Russian generals and space leaders build multimillion dollar homes on what in the US would be slightly above minimum wage incomes...

The US and Russia aren't going to the Moon or anywhere else-- it would cost hundreds of billions and take decades and neither country has the money or the guts to take the risks to do it, or the willingness to change things enough to get it done. It's easier to sing and dance to the same old tune than it is to go change the record...

Later! OL JR :)
