I was wondering if there is any interest in having a discussion area where the focus of the discussion is on max altitude and speed. I was browsing the Australian Rocketry forum and they have a similar thing going.
It's just a thought, wondering what other people think of it...:o

I think this is the right discussion area for this...

Yeah. I think that would be very popular since there are a lot of specialized activities that bridge lpr mpr HPR. If all of the really good speed and altitude rockets were put together I think it would be a great spot to learn the tricks of the trade.
Not to mention it would be a cool place for a TRF only unofficial Altitude Record section.

Also this is a good way for people to learn how to streamline the rockets for maximum efficiency......with big engines of course. :)

Good I'm glad other people want to do this. Bryce, good idea with the recording speed sticky. We could do like a top 20 fastest recorded flights.
And I p'med Troj about this a while ago and he said he liked the idea and would talk to other administrators about it.

Yep, I passed it along, and the consensus was, at least for now, to not create another forum.
It's always a tough call -- balancing breaking things out versus having too many forums. And right now, we didn't see the need. That said, if there's enough user support for it, that doesn't mean our minds can't be changed.
As far as "TRF Altitude Records," that's not going to happen. If someone wants to do something informally, they're more than welcome to do so. But there won't be anything official.

I like it. We are having a Mach Madness drag race at Thunderstruck in a few weeks. This will be a good place for some good questions and bragging.

Ah, I see. Well hopefully we can get enough people to support it and then someday it will happen...
Griffin-You should post the results of the race on TRF!

Nope, not mine. I have a couple projects in the works that are similar to it (check out "Mach 2 on an I" thread).
Tony,
I was actually watching your videos today. They are very informative. :)

I'm up for it
Will this be for actual building and flying or just day dreaming?
Maybe just expand on the "Lost and Found" section?

This is a big part of extreme flights. If your financially or emotionally attached to a rocket..don't fly it..you're gonna loose some of them!

Motor mount? What's that? I have heard of this thing called a centering ring. Is it related to one of those? :horse:

Not my fastest or highest flight, but this past weekend I did a test flight of what I soon hope to break my personal best.

My personal best was this rocket "Carbon Nightmare" She barely cracked mach 2 with a four grain 75. I hope to come pretty close to mach 3 with a revised version of this rocket at Thunderstruck 3.

What size airframe is it? Any other specs?

It's a 4" rocket 7' long that comes in around 9 pounds with everything minus the motor (more details on my site). The picture is 6 grain 76mm ex motor that flew over 21k feet. It will soon fly on a 17kNs N motor to around 38k feet, hopefully more.
