I am dangerously low on epoxy clay, and I need more. The epoxy Apogee sells is a little expensive, so I googled "epoxy clay" and I found Aves Apoxie Sculpt. The strange thing is, the 1/4 lb. tubs look like the epoxy clay I already use. Is it?
Has anyone used Aves before?

The epoxy clay Apogee sells IS Aves.
Apoxy is different than the epoxy clay. Couldn't tell you how but it is.

I know that Aves sells two different types of epoxy-Apoxy and Magic Sculpt. What is the difference?

"FIXIT" is what you want, if you want the same thing that Apogee sells. Here is some commentary from another board.

The FIXIT is primarily an adhesive, whereas Apoxie Clay and Apoxie Sculpt are more geared toward creating items themselves. At least that is how I interpret it. I use the FIXIT stuff, and it works great in certain situations.
I *think* that the three products differ in the amount of actual epoxy involved. The Clay has the least, the Sculpt has more, and the FIXIT has more still. That's just my speculation, though; based on product descriptions and commentary.
If you just want a larger quantity of the same stuff that Apogee carries, buy FIXIT. If you want more info, call the people at Aves and ask them - I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you. And share with us. I could have done that, but I'm happy with FIXIT.

Oh, and P.S. - what do you use FIXIT for? I've only found a couple places where it's preferable to some other simpler alternative.

Aves calls their brand of epoxy clay Apoxie. Epoxy-Apoxie same thing. Their Magic Sculpt is a little finer for more detail and can be tooled with water like wet clay and I believe the Apoxie Sculpt is for basic rough sculpting, and for dry tooling only, I think!!!

I mainly use it to make external fin fillets (and bulkheads, too), but I also used it on screw eyes, to lock them in place. I don't have any JB Weld, but FIXIT works just as well, at least for me.

Be very careful. The Sculpt and such are NOT the same thing. When they dry they are more rubbery and don't sand NEAR as well. You want Aves FIXIT period. Not sculpt. Don't ask me how I know! :bangpan::bangpan::bangpan:
I just bought a 1 pounder of FIXIT for $31USD on Amazon and that was with shipping/tax etc.

My primary problem with epoxy clay is that it is heavy, and you are adding weight to the place where a rocket needs it the least - the aft portion of the rocket.
Another alternative is to make your own version.
You can get Aeropoxy or WEST epoxies and then add microballoons to the desired consistency. It's a good lightweight alternative and sands easily.

O usually only use epoxy clay on external fillets. Inside the fincan, I use Devcon epoxy. Same on the rings. And thanks for the tip on the sculpt, because now I know what not to get
