View Full Version : Where can I find SCUD-B or C scale data?

I have decided on a scale scratch build for my Level 1 cert flight. After all they fun is building the cool rockets, not flying them, right?

Anyway I remember the scuds flying in desert storm and thought that would be a good candidate. Some quick math tells me I can us a standard 4" ariframe and come up with a 1:8.66 that would be a shade over 51" and should fly nicely on an H or an I motor.

Now just need some detailed measurements. Come to find out that I missed Mr. Dorffler's passing by some 6 months (RIP) so it seems like that avenue is closed. Anyone have any suggestions for a data source?

Any help would be appreciated.

Chris

Go to the NAR website and check out "12 Soviet Missiles Of The Cold War":

https://blastzone.com/nar/narts/store.asp?groupid=1080035015601

It has most all the Scud missiles listed.

Simple 4 fins and a nose cone.

I've made them before so I can make the cone and I have the decal file.

Thanks, Greg, that should do the trick.

I can do the cone in balsa (cheapest), basswood (best bet) or fiberglass (very labor intensive!)

Do some sims with the drawing I provided and let me know which way you want to go.

The fins are really thick on the prototype (3/8" thick for a 4" model)so I don't think any fiberglass is needed on this one.

The drawings I posted and the decals I have are for the Soviet version. Not the Iraqi version.

Besides, the Soviet ones are all green...no masking.;)

OK, nuclear ones had a yellow tip.

Wanted to do the Soviet one so that is all cool. (I actually have a friend that I work with that was in the Soviet Army as a young man, he will think that cool.)

So basswood for the nosecone, gonna use Blue Tube for the the airframe and 1/4 plywood for centering rings and fins. (Aircraft birch on the fins, some cheaper stuff on the centering rings.) Oh and probably invest in a CTI Pro38 starter set for propulsion.

Probably use some of the techniques in your excellent build thread for your prototype. I guess it is time to fire up OpenRocket!

I have not had this much fun in decades. :D

Sorry to put a delay on this but I have a house full of guests.

I only had a moment to respond. It will have to wait until Monday.

Sorry.
