A while back I picked up a Black n Decker router to do my rocketry stuff and then made my own aluminum "Crapien Specific" jasper type jig. It worked pretty well but I grew tired of all the rocket science involved with getting the holes drilled just right and hoping I'd get the cuts perfect in expensive materials.

So, I picked up a real Jasper Jig for about 50 bucks to get things...just right.

This thing is drilled out in a fashion that it mounts to at least 48 different models of routers. It's an awesome product other than the fact that it doesn't fit........... MY ROUTER! :bang:

On a positive/sarcastic note, there's got to be a store here in town that'll sell me a router that fits my Jasper Jig for > 4X the cost of the jig.

All is well, I'll keep on gettin' on. Just had to vent a little. :fly:

Serious bummer!

We use both of these (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=365-260) for cutting centering rings and bulkheads for smaller rockets, and they work really well.

They get used on a Porter Cable router, and it's just slicker than snot. Check what your router options are for something that will fit the jig.

For bigger stuff, well, let's just say that standard jigs don't cut up to 80" rings....but ours will. :)

It's been a while since I looked at my Jasper/router. Is it because the mount holes are different? If you know a machinist, he should be able to drill the proper pattern.

The one pictured on right is the very one I was speaking of. Looks like it fits everything under the sun doesn't it?

With the product being acrylic and the original mounting holes being close but not quite right, that's probably not an option.

But, you got me thinkin' Greg. Said acrylic jasper jig might just make a fine template for an aluminum copy that I could make on my own ( and of course fit MY router ). I'll sleep on it.

Alright, I slept on it and here's what I came up with.

I did it all by hand more or less and it only cost me a 50 cent cup of coffee to
a co-worker for borrowing his set of transfer punches.

I think it turned out pretty freakin' well but, no wonder it's taking so long to build ~LQC~ :blush:

+1 on what Troj said. That template and a good router and you are set for CR/bulk plate production.
