Yeah, that's the American way.

OTOH, I have often found myself looking at old PMs at the bottom of the list, and wondering what they were and why I was keeping them. Anybody who wants to keep old PMs for long-term reference can always copy them off the TRF website and store them as Word documents, for example.

I think the TRF PM system was only intended for quick notes, not as another "email" system. I kinda lean the other way, that maybe 50 or 40 or 30 slots might be enough.....

Powderburner is correct, the PM system is for quick messages and isn't intended to be an email replacement...

You can easily download your PM's in a variety of formats, so you don't actually have to delete any of them. Either check the box next to the PM's you want to download and select 'Download as XML/CSV/Text" from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the list of messages, or click one of the 'Download all private messages as' links a bit further down. I'd go with Text unless you have a specific reason to want XML or CSV.

Then you can empty your PM folders with the old PMs safely on your hard drive. An instant increase in PM box space. ;)

Paid membership for special access and addons to forums is not rare. Most forums that i am active on have an optional paid membership like $10 a year and usually come with a decal to show off your support for the site, little extra pm space, and usually a topic page available only to supporters, and in a few cases even gives you a discount from a few of the vendors. Not sure how well it would take to such an established site such as this one tho
