Got to fly her today.
Used a 29/38 adaptor and flew on a H180.
Great flight, fast, with a white flame, perfectly straight, did not weathercock despite the gusting winds.

It seems one of the most popular rockets to scale up is the Estes Mosquito. Not surprising, since the standard rocket tends to disappear on its first flight.

Here's mine: the Mo' Skeeter. It's a BT60 upscale, flying on 1x18mm engine, with rear ejection so that, like a "real" Mosquito, it doesn't have to have a nose cone line.

Built my first mosquito shortly after the NEW mini-Brute 13mm motors were introduced back in the day. Only old pic I have is it with the other two "mini-brute offerings the Screamer and mini-Bertha.

After a Model Rocket flying day at Wallops Island Visitors Center....I had to build a momento...the "Wallops Island Welter" Odd-Roc Version to commerate the blood loss LOL!!

Decided I needed a Photo scaling piece or pieces as it were, so built the Swarm of Mosquitos just for fun.
I do Fly a couple Mosquitos fitted with rear ejection pods for Micro Maxx motors and streamers making them a lot more recoverable then the motor kicking orginal.

This is my lovely Mad Cow Mozzie, with my 1973(yes I know, I butchered it with the beta series paint job) original mosquito.

Just for matchy matchy purposes, I will paint the mozzie like that as well...


and stay tuned. My dad is to do his L2 this spring with a 5.5 inch diameter mosquito.

My Mosquitoes

Last spring I built a U.S. Rockets Mosquito 2.2. I loved that rocket! I lost it in waist deep alfalfa on a flight with a SU F50T. It was an awesome flight and I watched all the way to the ground. Looked for it for several hours. Several other people looked as well and nada:(

I bought another kit at the launch because I knew I would build another one.

I tried a new brand of paint and put the second coat on at a bad time. The finish was a bit flawed but it's hard to tell as it's screaming to the sky.

So what do you get in this kit? This is a simple kit. There aren't that many parts!

-Nice hard balsa fins and nose cone. The fins are surface mounted. I used a new technique for me in attaching them on my first build. I'll cover that when I get to attaching the fins.
-Sturdy 2.2" body tube.
-29mm motor mount with a 24mm adapter. Plywood centering rings.
-3"x30" streamer that works great on this rocket.
-Shock chord is nice and long and the attachment uses the classic paper fold triangle.
-1/4" launch lug
-Spare easy to follow instructions

A very simple, easy kit. Time to build! Feel free to jump into the conversation.

The Mosquito was one of my favorite rockets when I was younger. I built one in 4th grade, and used "How to launch a model rocket safely" as part of an assignment on writing step-by-step instructions. I even brought the mosquito and my launch equipment in as visual aids to the assignment. ( Wasn't allowed to launch it in the classroom tho. That wouldn't ahve been safe. :p )

I don't think mine ever got painted, but it was a good choice to fly on the small fields I had available at the time.

This is my Mosquito upscale that I call "Blood Sucker". It's BT-80 based with a plastic nose cone. I laminated 1/8" balsa for the fins to get them 1/4" thick. I also made my own water slide decals for the first time. They turned out great! I must say, this has turned into one of my favorite rockets, it's a fun little flier!

Here's my Mega Mosquito at ESL on an Estes E12. I put rail buttons on it in anticipation of bigger motors, but I think I burned half the Ns of the E12 just getting off the rail. So far, the E18W has been the sweet spot for this rocket.

I flew it naked for my L1 cert on an I218 Redline; then for my L2 cert, I painted and finished it with Martha Stewart paint & decals on a J350. (The mere mention of MS paint on a rocket, just about gave one of my cert members a stroke...)
Anyway, flew great and landed with a tail stand.
