Poll on Self Registration

I found the arguments for and against "Self Regulation/Registration" fascinating. I'm still not sure that the original post was serious--or if this is one of those threads were the original starter says "I fooled you--I was just kidding". However, assuming some validity to it--I found many of the reply posts most interesting. I therefore took many of the answers--and created a poll. I have never been able to create a poll in the past--but here goes. Note--you may vote for more than one answer. Also, please read "Should we ""Register"" ourselves now?" Also found in The Watering Hole. Otherwise, this makes no sense.

Sadly, I think it was just wishful thinking on Dave's part and that S. was recently on a tour promoting his new book.

Here is the brilliance of the poll: If you look at the first six choices--and then look at the first several responses to the "Should we "register" ourselves now?" thread--you will see that the first 6 options that I posted are word for word partial quotes from people making responses to that thread. The only choice that is not an exact quote from responses to the original thread is number 7. That is a partial quote from the original post that started the thread. The problem was that there were no responses in favor of self registration, and I wanted to include a choice that was favorable to the thoughts of the thread starter--fair and balanced--sort of.

The organizations at bay spent countless amounts of time and money to remove regulations which were hindering our activities - you guys have complained and whined about them for 9 years, now you want to pile regulations back on??

In a lot of ways this some posts in this thread remind me of a group of kids ostrasizing another for saying something odd in high school and some arent very nice about it. Frankly I find the way this is put together distasteful quite divorced from the subject matter.

Well, NONE OF THE ABOVE, due to fixed poll. "Unfair and unbalanced", indeed.

6 choices that are along the same lines to flog the original poster, and 1 choice opposing those (the original poster).

With ZERO choices that acknowledge the existence of HPR certification under NFPA, conducted by NAR and TRA, LONG before BATF stuck their nose into it.

That *IS* a form of self-regulation among the rocket organizations and NFPA. And that is going to remain, for good sound reasons.

What the BATF win means is no need for LEUP's and storage in Magazines for APCP motors.

Actually I have been somewhat surprised at the number of people who apparently thought the HPR Cert process had been created due to BATF.

When one of the choices of the poll is this:
"Never had a need for any of this before...why start now?"

That shows the poll is fixed, because that is totaly untrue and a horrible choice to stick into a poll. We have ALWAYS had self-regulation in HPR ever since it became LEGAL, as effectively a new rocket category between Model Rocketry and Amateur Rocketry. That is what the HPR Certs have been about.

Couldn't agree more with you Fred.
This "poll" is very mean spirited; seems meant to gang up and disparage the author of the earlier post.
But I've been on the "receiving end" of one his post too (for a joke no less),
so I may not be too objective.

totally agreed - if one person thinks we should be more tightly controlled etc then they should be allowed to speak without personal comments being made.

Thats not quite right.

Its quite obvious that the poster either meant this poll as either a joke or an intentional troll. Just look at the poll answer selections. Its quite obvious the poster was expecting many to either think "think this is nuts", "thinks this is insane", and so forth . . . Most of the available answers are biased towards anti-regulation showing that the poster was already expecting that sort of answer bias to begin with. Just note that four of the answers were identical showing that the poster expected those types of responses.

The poster clearly expected these types of responses, so if he didn't want to get burned, he should have stayed out of the kitchen.

Why can't we simply discuss an issue without taking it personally?? If someone proposes self regulation, it isn't a personal attack on all the HPR folks or some sort of conspiracy to eliminate it. Personally I think it would help; certainly couldn't hurt!

That being said, I understand and appreciate not everyone agrees and don't take that personally... opinions are like, well, you know, and everybody's got one!

Make your point and move on, agree, disagree, or whatever. If you have facts or observations that support your opinion, state them and move on. Personal attacks or questioning someone's motivations is just the weak argument of a weak mind. JMHO! OL JR :)
