Paper rockets

In these tough times it seems entirely apropriate to talk paper rockets :) What are some of your favourite sites and designs folks? :) Pictures advice and thoughts on these little beauties would be greatly apreciated :)

I build a LOT of paper rockets. I like to use them in competition because they are cheap, light and if I don't get the return, I'm not really out much except a couple sheets of cardstock and the time involved in building it. Plus, since you print your graphics/paint scheme right on the cardstock, you can pretty up what would otherwise be an unpainted rocket, not to mention making it easy to add my NAR number or name to the rocket.

The first two photos are some of the paper rockets I've designed, built and flown successfully. The last is Fliskits' Midnight Express, which I "repainted" (on the computer of course) to use the Estes Goblin's paint scheme.

Regarding the Ultimate Paper Rocket Guide:
I'm glad to see the Truax 1/24th semi-scale Patriot Missile posted again. That's been a favorite of mine and performs unbelievably well. Building and finishing the 10 piece paper nosecone will teach you some valuable skills.

I really enjoy Eric Truax's rockets. I've been communicating with him the last few weeks as we brought back some of his rockets after a hiatus.

...and for 13mm or MMX I suggest Bob Harrington's Rockets (http://rocketry.wordpress.com/ultimate-paper-rocket-guide/paper-rocket-partial-builds/) - all downsized classics that are a blast to fly on 13mm or MMX.

I also built a 2 stager that I flew on a C6-0/C6-7 combination and amazingly, I got both stages back! A second launch using the same motor combination was not as fortunate and the sustainer disappeared.

I upscaled a midnight express 2 times and put a 13mm deuce motor mount in it. One of my favorites to fly.

I used printouts of the Saturn 1-B paper (cardstock) rocket to "dress" my
Estes K-29 vintage kit by adding display nozzles at the base. I plan to make
a "flying" version, too.

That's for sure. It's a great little flier. Just make sure you have 1/4A3's or 1/2A3's otherwise you can color it GONE!!!!!! I know this from experience.


Here's the Truax Patriot, Eric's cardstock vesion of Bret Simpkins Top Secret that flies on 13mm (both paper nosecones were epoxied and painted), two Fliskit's and Bob Harrington's ESS Raven. Also pictured is the Patriot just prior to being lost on an A10-3T.

I built the paper AIM-9B Sidewinder model designed by Adrian Lamande - you can download it here:http://www.dpileggispicks.com/adrianlamande'saim-9sidewinder/lamande.html

It has flown twice and flies great - C6-5 only. I used thick CA to glue everything together and then sprayed the whole rocket with clear polyeurethane so the ink doesn't run if it starts raining.

Here's a Micro Carded Goblin I flew today, next to its big brother, a "Franken" Goblin.
I was surprised how high the little Goblin got on a Micro Maxx engine.

It's about 39 inches long and flys great on E9-6's.

Bob, nice pics and launch photos! Are those nozzles/veniers removed for flight (looks like they're missing in the last two pics)? Also, there seems to
be room for the four veniers for the core stage (at the bottom).

be room for the four veniers for the core stage (at the bottom).The nozzles/verniers on the boosters are permanent and weren't built when the full picture was taken. The nozzles/verniers for the center section was built on a spent 24mm motor so it could be added for display but I seem to have lost it somewhere.

Not all rockets, and some can be modified to fly.
As far as favorites go the Currell Friede is a top contender. Here is my 290% upscale of the Currell kit lifting off on a F-40.

The first one, the NAR Paper Tiger, is very simple to
build and is a good park flyer. After reading through
this thread, I got the bug to build something and so
we're building 18mm and 13mm Paper Tigers today.
