Are hexagonal and octagonal parachutes measured from flat to flat or point to point?

I understand that question created a big hassle at a Naram many years ago.
I measure from flat to flat, but I don't know that there is any agreed standard.:confused2:

I measured an Estes 18" when I got home, but it's slightly under 18" flat to flat, and over from point to point. I think they meant it to be 18" flat to flat though.

When we make our flat sheet style chute it is measured from flat to flat.

I agree that it is from flat to flat. I was just assembling some hexagonal plastic parachutes a couple of days ago. The printed patterns made it clear that the corners/attachment points were "outside" of the diameter.

I know the dynastar 32" chute is flat to flat, and apogee chutes are also flat to flat.
